Harness will not unplug Sep 30, 2009 I purchased this unit for my 1996 Ford Explorer. The rubber faces on the switches have dry rotted. Based on the posted comments, it was possible to disconnect the wiring harness and just install the two switches. I have been to everyone I know on how to unplug the wiring harness. I need the Amazon world to give me the hidden secret of how to get the wire harness unplugged from the switches, so I can install without having to pull the whole steering wheel.
The plugs wiggle but will not release. I even went to a ford dealer and they stated that the unit is made in one whole piece and the harness will not unplug.
Need some help here or this will become a worthless purchase
Exact Factory Correct Replacement Jan 18, 2009 Switches are an exact replacement for my 1996 Ford Ranger and they nclude the wires. Although some reviewers pointed out that you can replace the switch alone by releasing the wiring from them, my wires were pretty degraded. If you need to replace the wiring too, then the easiest way is to pull the steering wheel. Disconnect the battery, wait at least 10 minutes, then pop the plugs on the sides of the steering wheel. Remove the nuts underneath and the airbag module comes right off. Set it aside, remove the nut holding the wheel (!) and use a steering wheel puller to remove the wheel. The new switches and wiring require no modification and fit like a glove. They also work perfectly and make your truck look "like new." The only criticism I have of them is that the backlighting is pretty dim, but I think the originals weren't much brighter. The price was very good (best I found), and it included free shipping. If your switches are cracking and falling apart then you should buy them right now.
Motorcraft SW5919 Cruise Control Switch Nov 29, 2008 Works great, very easy to install. I purchased this for our 97 Ford Ranger. To install take the two bolts off the steering column. This removes the airbag. Now install the new switches.
Great Product, easy install Apr 26, 2008 I purchased this to replace the switch in my 1996 Mazda B4000 which was falling apart due to exposure to the sun. Since my old switches were working, just the outside housing was falling apart, I did not need to replace the wiring harness that goes between the two halves and under the steering wheel mounts. I was able to disconnect the connectors on each switch and just plug the old in place harness into the new switches. So all I had to do was remove the two screws which hold the air bag in place, disconnect the air bag wire connector and set the air bag aside, remove the two screws on each switch, unplug the wire connector at the switch, plug the connector into the new switch and then put it all back together again. Less than 10 minutes work and they look and work great!
